Material
The Farol lamps are crafted from a durable steel wire frame, handmade in the ames ateliers in Bogotá, Colombia. This frame serves as the structural foundation for the intricate wrapping of acrylic-cotton yarns, traditionally used by the Wayuu people of Northern Colombia to weave hammocks. The combination of steel and yarn creates a unique interplay of strength and softness. Artisans use three different yarns to weave a semi-transparent shade, allowing the bulb’s light to gently diffuse into the room. The materials are resilient, color-rich, and easy to maintain, making Farol lamps ideal for both residential and commercial interiors.

Care instructions
Farol lamps are handcrafted lighting pieces made from a steel wire frame wrapped in acrylic-cotton yarns. To maintain their beauty and structure over time, follow these care guidelines: Dusting: Use a feather duster or a dry, soft dust cloth to gently remove dust from the surface. → Do not use water or cleaning agents, as they may damage the yarns. Avoid Moisture: These materials are not suitable for humid environments. Keep away from water or steam. Protect from Sunlight: To prevent fading, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. No Mechanical Stress: Do not pull or press on the yarns – this may loosen or damage the woven structure.

The Farol lamps, designed by Mae Engelgeer, illuminate any space with a soft glow and a burst of color. Inspired by traditional Colombian weaving techniques, these handcrafted lights are a tribute to cultural heritage and contemporary design. Mae Engelgeer’s vision blends contrasting proportions and organic shapes to create a dramatic yet harmonious aesthetic. Each lamp is a unique composition: The large pendant features overlapping circles that radiate elegance and fluidity. The floor lamp contrasts an angular base with an oversized oval shade, elevated by intricate weaving. The table lamp is partially enclosed by a structured bonnet, offering a cozy and sculptural presence. Handmade by Colombian artisans, the Farol collection celebrates sustainability, craftsmanship, and design innovation. Perfect for homes, studios, or hospitality spaces seeking a bold yet refined statement.
Each Farol lampshade is meticulously handcrafted in the ames ateliers in Bogotá, Colombia, using yarns traditionally employed by the Wayuu people of Northern Colombia to weave hammocks. These vibrant, durable yarns are repurposed to create intricate lighting designs that honor indigenous techniques while embracing modern aesthetics. Our skilled artisans work with three different yarns to weave each shade onto a steel wire frame, carefully leaving fine gaps that allow the bulb’s light to softly illuminate its surroundings. The weaving process is entirely manual and time-intensive: Small shade: approx. 2 days of weaving Medium shade: approx. 4 days Large shade: approx. 8 days This dedication to craftsmanship ensures that every Farol lamp is not only a functional light source but also a piece of cultural artistry, celebrating Colombia’s rich textile traditions and the value of slow, sustainable design.
