The Marimondas Shelf’s flowing curves and colorful
accents evoke the joyous movement and celebratory
atmosphere of the Barranquilla Carnival. Its design pays
homage to the playful and mischievous marimonda
characters, as well as the regal arches and ornate
elements of the carrozas de reinas, adding a touch of
festivity and cultural richness to any space.
Whether used to display decor or as a standalone
centerpiece, this piece transforms interiors with its lively
and artistic appeal.
We are thrilled to announce the launch of our latest collaboration: Marimondas, a unique and vibrant shelf design by the renowned Dutch duo, Visser & Meijwaard Studio. Drawing inspiration from the iconic carrozas de reinas (queen’s floats) and the lively spirit of the Barranquilla Carnival, this new piece is a captivating blend of cultural richness and innovative design. The Marimondas Shelf embodies the exuberance of Barranquilla’s iconic carnival, with bold organic shapes and intricate textures reminiscent of the elaborate floats that parade through the streets. Woven using two distinct techniques with Ames’ signature upcycled PVC material, the shelf bursts with energy and elegance, capturing the vibrant essence of Colombia’s heritage. It not only complements Ames' dynamic home goods but also acts as a statement piece that highlights their unique designs.
Visser & Meijwaard is a Dutch design studio specializing in product and scenographic exhibition design. Vera Meijwaard and Steven Visser design clear but minimalist products that play associatively with material, color, and form. The broad spectrum of their work ranges from furniture and lighting to textiles, ceramics, and glassware. The Marimonda Shelf is their second design for Ames.
