Milpesos Lighting Series by Ames – Designed by VisserMeijwaard with Seje Palm VisserMeijwaard, the Dutch design duo known for minimalist objects with expressive power, bring their signature style to Ames with their first product: the Milpesos pendant lamp. Crafted from the enchanting Seje palm – a natural material with a pearl-like, wavy texture and intertwined branch knots – the lamp embodies both elegance and authenticity. “The Seje palm immediately caught our attention: a wooden branch with a unique texture and mesmerizing natural beauty,” say the designers. This tactile surface allows Colombian artisans to wrap a wooden wickerwork around a metal frame, forming the lamp’s core structure. The name Milpesos is one of many regional names for the Seje palm, reflecting its cultural significance. The basket-weaving technique has been perfected over more than a decade along Colombia’s Caribbean coast. Each lamp is handmade over a period of three weeks, showcasing the sustainable luxury and craftsmanship that define Ames.

The name Milpesos is one of many names given to the Seje palm thanks to its regional popularity. Its basket-like processing has been perfected in the Colombian Caribbean for over ten years. The handmade production of the lamp takes no less than three weeks - a precision craftsmanship that underpins the environmentally conscious luxury of the product and the Ames brand. The pendant lamp was designed by VisserMeijwaard, who fell in love with the pearl-like wave structure and intertwined knots of the Seje palm tree.

Visser & Meijwaard is a Dutch design studio specializing in product and scenographic exhibition design. Vera Meijwaard and Steven Visser design clear but minimalist products that play associatively with material, color, and form. The broad spectrum of their work ranges from furniture and lighting to textiles, ceramics, and glassware. The Milpesos lamp is their first design for Ames.
