For the
"Picos" collection, Ames collaborated for the first time with the Canadian design studio REPUBLIC OF II BY IV for the
first time.
Together they developed a table duo, the base of which is inspired by the sugar loaf-like shape of the Colombian
mountains, the Cerros de Mavecure. The monoliths were made from black clay in Tolima, where they were layered
by hand centimeter by centimeter by local artisans and were allowed to dry for up to five days before each new
layer was allowed to dry under the Colombian sun for up to five days. The result: two conical mountains that
capture the rugged charm of the Guainía region in their robust beauty
The bases (the small table version measures 44 cm, the large 65 cm) are each crowned by a hand-woven tabletop
made from a natural fiber from Colombia: the fique fiber, which is obtained from a type of agave and processed
by skilled craftsmen in Boyacá region by skilled craftsmen. Natural colors fan out geometrically around the
mountain peak of the black clay.
