The Suncho basket is a delightful, hand-made storage piece that can also be used as a planter. French designer Pauline Deltour developed the checked pattern after seeing the plastic bags Colombians bring with them when shopping at the food markets in Bogota. The collection also includes vases, storage boxes and pen holders, and is available in three colour combinations
Artisans in the ames workshops in Bogota weave the pieces with ribbons made from recycled, UV-resistant polypropylene. Thanks to the choice of this sturdy material, all Sunchos pieces can also be used outdoors. The techniques our craftspeople use go back to the ancient weaving methods of the indigenous civilisations that lived in pre-hispanic Colombia. It takes one artisan about three days to produce one Sunchos piece
Born in France, Pauline Deltour’s aesthetic is defined by being strikingly simple and beautifully detailed at once. Her designs showcase a curiosity in the qualities of the raw materials and transferring production techniques between disciplines. Pauline Deltour joined ames founder Ana Maria Calderón Kayser on a trip to Colombia to study the local materials first hand and learn from the artisans about the traditional weaving techniques. Back in her Paris studio, where she develops furniture and product designs for international brands, Deltour designed a range of furniture and living accessories for ames
