The dark glaze is applied before firing, giving the surface its signature subtle shimmer. A distinctive feature is the woven collar, handcrafted from Jipi palm leaf fibers. This technique originates from the Tairona culture, an indigenous group from northern Colombia. Jipi fibers are lightweight, durable, and traditionally used in intricate weaving. Combined with the ceramic body, the result is an authentic design piece that reflects Colombian craftsmanship and cultural heritage.

The Coyar Vase celebrates the richness of Colombian pottery and adds a bold contrast to any interior with its deep black sheen. Designer Cristina Celestion drew inspiration from Mucuras – traditional Latin American ceramic vessels that honor the female form and trace back to pre-Columbian times. Each vase is handcrafted by Colombian artisans and adorned with a striking collar made from Jipi palm fibers, a cultural element rooted in the heritage of the Tairona people from northern Colombia. The collection includes four sizes, with some models available without the collar. Coyar is a fusion of design, heritage, and craftsmanship, perfect for contemporary interiors.

The Coyar vases are crafted in collaboration with two family-run workshops in Tolima, a Colombian province renowned for its 300-year-old pottery tradition. These workshops employ over 70 people – many of them relatives – with specialists for every stage of production: from clay extraction to wood-fired kiln firing to polishing. The process is almost entirely handmade, using minimal tools. One of the few tools used is corn husks. After mixing clay and water, the blend is left to dry naturally under the sun, requiring stable weather and temperatures above 35°C. The signature dark glaze is applied before firing, and each vase is then polished with semi-precious stones to achieve its subtle shimmer. Preparing the clay alone takes ten days, followed by twelve more days to complete the vase. This slow, nature-based process results in a truly authentic Colombian design piece, rich in tradition and craftsmanship.

Cristina Celestino is one of the most prolific contemporary Italian designers. Born in Pordenone and educated at the IUAV University of Venice, she founded Attico Design in 2011 and her own studio in Milan in 2013 – a city that continues to inspire her work. Her signature style blends soft curves, pastel hues, and subtle references to Italy’s rich design heritage. Her creations – spanning furniture, interiors, and installations – are defined by geometric precision, material exploration, and a touch of irony. She merges historical influences with modern aesthetics to create emotional design visions that resonate globally.
