With their strong colour-blocking, the Maraca Cushions are an ode to the rich cultural heritage of the Bolívar region in Northern Colombia. In this area, the old manufacturing techniques and methods are still cherished and taught. Among these is the art of building the famous maracas rattles, which the gaiteros use to play ancient rhythms
The cushion covers are made of 100% hand-woven cotton. The cotton yarns are dyed exclusively with natural dyes and then finished by hand. To bind the bright colours, the artesanos use salt and almidon, a natural starch. Just the preparation of all the materials takes three days, while the production of each cushion takes two days
