With the Maraca Lounge Chair, Sebastian Herkner has created a charming spot to relax, inspired by the traditional Colombian hammocks. The gentle curves of the steel frame mirror the bend of the seating fabric, whose pattern represents the pure joy of life
The fabric of the chair is hand-woven with 100% cotton yarns. These yarns are dyed with natural dyes only and then finished by hand. To bind the bright colours, the artesanos use salt and almidon, a natural starch. Just the preparation of all the materials takes three days, while the production of each chair takes two days
German designer Sebastian Herkner is a long-term collaborator of ames and has visited Colombia multiple times to experience the country’s cities, nature and people first hand. He also visited many of the ateliers that ames has partnered with to learn about the unique traditional crafts of Colombia's regions. A sought-after contemporary designer and recipient of many industry awards, he has worked with many international design brands, creating intriguing pieces that showcase his intuition for interesting material, colour and texture combinations
