Materials: Black Ceramic & Jipi Palm Leaf Fibers The Raiz lamp features a handcrafted black ceramic shade, made in traditional workshops in the Colombian region of Tolima. The clay is shaped by hand and fired in low-temperature wood kilns, resulting in a unique surface texture for each piece. The decorative details are crafted from natural fibers of the Jipi palm, woven by hand using time-honored techniques. These fibers come from southwestern Colombia, where weaving with Iraca and Jipi palm leaves is a deeply rooted tradition. The fibers are dyed using natural methods with seeds, leaves, and minerals, then dried for several days before being processed.

Pflege der Raiz Leuchte: Keramik & Jipi-Palmenfasern Die Raiz Leuchte ist ein handgefertigtes Designobjekt aus schwarzer Keramik bzw. glasiertem Terrakotta und natürlichen Jipi-Palmenfasern. Um die Qualität und Langlebigkeit zu erhalten, empfehlen wir folgende Pflege: Nur für den Innenbereich geeignet – vor Feuchtigkeit und direkter Sonneneinstrahlung schützen. Keramikschirm: Mit einem weichen, leicht feuchten Tuch reinigen. Keine scheuernden oder chemischen Reinigungsmittel verwenden, da sie die Oberfläche beschädigen können. Geflochtene Jipi-Fasern: Staub vorsichtig mit einem weichen Pinsel oder Mikrofasertuch entfernen. Bei Bedarf mit einem trockenen Tuch abwischen. Keine Feuchtigkeit oder Reinigungsmittel verwenden, da die Naturfasern empfindlich auf Nässe reagieren.

Raiz – Colombian Craftsmanship Meets Minimalist Design The Raiz floor lamp is part of the first lighting collection by ames, developed in collaboration with the acclaimed London-based design studio Studioilse. It combines refined minimalism with the depth of natural materials and fine textures, shaped by traditional Colombian craftsmanship. The handmade cone-shaped ceramic shade features a glazed interior that emits a warm, gentle light. To contrast the solid nature of the clay, handwoven details made from Iraca palm fibers—crafted using ancient techniques—add a tactile richness. A textile cable in black, beige, or brown complements the organic design and connects the lamp to the eclectic outlet. The top of the ceramic shade is available in five colors: Black, Terracotta, Trebol Green, Olive Green, and Pasto Green. The inner glaze comes in white or black. The woven trim is available in black, natural beige, or earthy brown (moreno).

Raiz – A Fusion of Colombian Pottery and Palm Fiber Craftsmanship The Raiz lighting series by ames and Studioilse brings together two traditional Colombian crafts: ancient pottery techniques and the intricate weaving of Iraca palm fibers. Depending on the finish, different artisanal methods are used. For the black ceramic shades, ames collaborates with two family-run workshops in Tolima, a region with over 300 years of pottery heritage. More than 70 families are involved, each specializing in steps from clay digging near the Magdalena River to firing in low-temperature wood kilns. Each shade is shaped entirely by hand without a pottery wheel and polished with semi-precious stones. The glazed versions in terracotta and green tones are made in a separate ceramics workshop, fired at higher temperatures for a glossy finish. The woven details are crafted in Nariño, southwestern Colombia, where Iraca palm fiber weaving has deep roots. The fibers are dyed using natural methods with seeds, leaves, and minerals, then dried and handwoven using tweezers, needles, and tongs over several days.

The team includes thirteen international creatives with expertise in interior architecture, product design, creative direction, strategy, and editorial work. Studioilse is known for its human-centered design philosophy, creating spaces and products that are emotionally engaging and functionally refined. The collaboration with ames on the Raiz lighting series highlights the studio’s ability to merge traditional Colombian craftsmanship with contemporary design.
