When Sebastian Herkner traveled through Colombia with Ames, the most diverse regions inspired him to create the most diverse products. And at one of the colder regions of all places, the lake landscape of the Boyacá region, produced four warm rugs for the coldest days of the year.
The Paipas rugs (Paipas is the capital of the region) are made using the traditional warp and weft method, a craft that Herkner was enthusiastic about when he visited the local manufacturers. Using traditional techniques and with great skill, the carpet artists weave 100% virgin wool into organic shapes that bring out the natural colors of the fabric. Four subtle designs in sand, earth and stone tones that combine tradition with the spirit of the times.
German designer Sebastian Herkner is a long-term collaborator of ames and has visited Colombia multiple times to experience the country’s cities, nature and people first hand. He also visited many of the ateliers that ames has partnered with to learn about the unique traditional crafts of Colombia's regions. A sought-after contemporary designer and recipient of many industry awards, he has worked with many international design brands, creating intriguing pieces that showcase his intuition for interesting material, colour and texture combinations
